SPECIAL ANALYTICAL SERVICES

METABOLITE IDENTIFICATION/ELUCIDATION

NOTOX provides metabolite identification in samples available from in vitro and in vivo studies, as well as from environmental fate studies. For identification of a metabolite, we use an LTQ linear ion trap LC-MS system or an Orbitrap accurate mass MS. Both can be coupled to a photodiode array detector and – if applicable – to a radioactivity detector. For all LC-MS identification methods, fast method development is performed for any compound, using a generic approach as starting point. The method is then adapted for the specific compound. Generally, method development is finished within three days. Data are generated using LC-PDA-MS analysis with data-dependent MS-MS. Additional MS analysis is possible, as well as accurate mass determination.

POLYMER TESTING
NOTOX is experienced in polymer testing. Not only do we provide services on polymer characterization and registration, but we also perform migration studies as a service to the polymer industry, packaging and food industry.

In registration guidelines polymers are generally treated different than small molecules. Some standard physical and chemical properties are excluded while typical polymer-related characteristics are required, like molecular weight distribution, low molecular weight content and water and organic solvent extractivity of the polymer.

Our study directors are experienced in polymer analysis and can provide you with the best approach to polymer testing, both physical-chemical properties as well as qualitative and quantitative analysis.

NOTOX’s state-of-the-art laboratories are equipped for polymer analysis and are able to carry out Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) and Evaporative Light Scattering Detection (ELSD), in combination with use of regular analytical tools such as HPLC and MS, or GCMS for residual solvent determination.

RESIDUE ANALYSIS IN FIELD TRIALS
In residue analysis our analytical equipment allow for the highest achievable speed of analysis at unchallenged sensitivity, combining Waters' UPLC wiwth Sciex' API 5000 MSMS instruments. We
analyze hundreds of samples from maize, apple, onion, cucumber, and many other crops or seedlings at sub-µg/kg concentration levels. We analyze not only the parent compound, but also known degradation products, generally using the same analytical method to keep time and costs to a minimum.

In field trials with the radiolabelled compound relevant metabolites are detected and identified by HPLC-MSMS or GC-MS.

Staff at NOTOX has extensive sample preparation experience. With efficient sample clean-up and concentration techniques, we process samples for accurate analysis in very short run times.

EXTRACTABLES AND LEACHABLES

MIGRATION
New legislation on food packaging materials sets migration limits for specific compounds as well as an overall migration limit. At NOTOX, we combine testing of packaging materials through direct contact with defined simulants, with the analysis of often very low concentrations of specific migrants. Depending on the nature of the packed foodstuff, simulants vary from plain water to rectified olive oil, and we analyze compounds like monomers, cross linkers, inks and curing agents down to the µg/kg level.

A validated testing set-up is available as well as multi-component methods based on GC-MS and HPLC-MS for tens of targeted migrating compounds.

For other compounds we develop new analytical methods that fulfill sponsor’s demands. For the identification of new or unknown compounds we perform UPLC analysis with a separation power roughly five times better than conventional HPLC. Accurate mass HPLC-MS or GC-MS are available for the identification of unknown compounds, together with 100 years of joint experience of our analytical chemists.
