As one of the founding directors of NOTOX I am very proud that NOTOX has been able to continuously expand their scope of services in their 25 years of existence. Moreover NOTOX as shown to be very successful in a competitive and changing market.

To NOTOX staff and management! When NOTOX told me that their 25th anniversary is due in November 2008, my curiosity was raised and I went back in our own files. Guess what - the first test for -then- Akzo by what would soon be NOTOX Den Bosch dates back to 1981 – a rather premature delivery , one might say! In those days Notox was still a fledgling company in Rotterdam, whereas the more regular reports from Den Bosch that we have on file date back from 1984 – some of them may have a “starting date” in 1983! So while we were maybe not the launching customer, we certainly were among the early birds. And over those 25 years (or should I say 27?), we have maintained a permanent good relationship, built on mutual trust as well as – from NOTOX’s end - prompt delivery of the quality reports that we wanted. Congratulations with this hallmark, and many more years of fruitful cooperation!

This is not a Christmas tale;This is a true story happening between September 22^th & September 26^th 2008!

We were peacefully working on a biocidal dossier for a Belgian customer belonging to the SME sized company. The objective was to achieve the completeness check for an active substance following the 98/8/EC. Everything was apparently under control & ready for submission to the Rapporteur Member State (RMS).

September 22^th, a long e-mail landed in my e-box. Something like 30 questions, complex to be answered at this stage invaded my outlook & drowned my poor brain.

We had to answer to all of them before September 30^th.

The normal time necessary to fulfill correctly the list of questions was estimated between 20 & 30 open days, 2 people full time. We received 5 days… & NOTOX support.

I phoned the person in charge of the dossier in the NOTOX organization. I will not mention her name. I am too afraid that all NOTOX clients will be asking for her!

We decided all together, NOTOX, another consultancy company & me to do our best & to prepare an answer for all the mandatory questions.

Day 1: Chance of success close to 0%

Day 2: The enthusiasm of everybody & professionalism of the team push all of us to start to believe. Chance of success 30%

Day 3: The right info’s are coming. Chance of success around 50%

Day 4: New questions were coming from the RMS. We were hopeless again. Our reaction was to work harder, hoping for a possible accomplishment. Chance of success was like the New York stock exchange downturn to 20%

Day 5: Unbelievable but true; all questions were answered; the NOTOX person in charge of the dossier (no name!) has done a brilliant job.

Conclusion of the tale: The completeness check for the active substance was granted by the RMS Monday September 29^th.

Today, I am still thinking that this story is close to a miracle. This type of speed is not medically prescribed against trouble of blood pressure!

We wish a long life to NOTOX & mainly to the people working there.

NOTOX has maintained an unwavering commitment to the pursuit of knowledge and safety research, as well as to its most important assets – its valued clients and employees. I would like to thank and congratulate each and every NOTOX employee, and would also like to especially thank the very many clients NOTOX has served over the years. Without our clients, there would be no NOTOX. Congratulations and best wishes to NOTOX many more years of industry service and growth.

Congratulations NOTOX to your 25th anniversary!!!

My first contact with NOTOX goes back to the year 1988, twenty years ago. At this time I was managing director in a Swiss CRO belonging to the same holding company as NOTOX. During 5 years I had a lot of coordination activities to do between my former company and NOTOX. NOTOX which is specialized in testing chemicals according to the European chemical law (notification process) was very active in setting up new test systems and offered the services more and more also to agrochemical and pharmaceutical companies. Jan van der Hoeven, the managing director of NOTOX since the start of the company in 1983, was able to get NOTOX out of the holding structure by management buyout in summertime 1993. NOTOX started again as an independent private owned CRO in The Netherlands with 90 enthusiastic and motivated scientists and technicians. In autumn 1993 I left my former company in Switzerland and founded my own company in spring 1994. The goal was to build up a Swiss agency for NOTOX clients in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Italy. With a very good educated and motivated team in ‘s-Hertogenbosch it was possible to keep many of my old contacts and build up new ones. NOTOX employees were very busy with the ongoing projects for the sponsors as well as introducing new study types like ADME studies, long term toxicology with rodents and dogs, new application routes, E-Fate studies, prolonged ecotox studies and so one. For me it was a very good time to work with many nice and competent colleagues in the Netherlands and to be also a shareholder of a fast developing CRO. The growth rate of NOTOX was and is about 15% every year and this is only possible with very good people in all offered jobs at NOTOX. Between 1994 and 2002 many additional labs and animal rooms were added to the old building and in 2002 and 2008 two very nice and big buildings were constructed which made it possible to expand again with the number of studies and new activities. Because NOTOX is a very successful company with a good trained staff and nice facilities, an American investor was interested to buy the company. With all the changes in the CRO world at this time, the management of NOTOX decided to sell the company to this investor at the end of the year 2005. This was a good decision for the fast growing company and opened a lot of additional opportunities for the motivated employees.The last 14 years with NOTOX were very nice and successful for me. The cooperation with the management and the study directors was always perfect. Thank you very much to the whole NOTOX team. I am looking forward to a very good and successful cooperation for some more years. Last but not least I would like to thank the sponsors using the services of NOTOX.
